Training Room AV Upgrade

Client:

Worchester Police Station

Location:

Worcester, MA

CAVT partnered with the City of Worcester Police Department to modernize two critical training environments—the Seminar Room and Squad Room—into a unified, high-performance AV ecosystem. The project focused on delivering clear communication, seamless hybrid collaboration, and intuitive system control to support real-world training scenarios.

- The Challenge

The Police Department required a solution that could handle a wide range of training scenarios—from in-room instruction to fully hybrid sessions—without adding complexity for users. Existing considerations, including an all-in-one solution, lacked the flexibility and performance needed for these environments.

Additionally, both rooms needed to deliver identical functionality and user experience while integrating cleanly with existing infrastructure and maintaining reliability in a mission-critical training setting.

- The Solution

CAVT designed and deployed a standardized AV solution across both rooms, centered around Q-SYS processing and a Logitech-based Teams Room ecosystem.

Key components of the solution included:

Unified Display System

Each room was equipped with an 86” main display paired with two 65” articulating side displays. This configuration ensures clear visibility from every seat, supporting both presentation content and collaborative sessions.

Teams Room Integration

A Logitech RoomMate powers the Microsoft Teams Room experience, enabling seamless hybrid collaboration. HDMI inputs at both the front podium and rear of the room allow flexible content sharing, with automatic switching based on active inputs.

Camera System

Logitech Rally PTZ cameras were deployed to capture participants and presenters with high clarity. Camera controls and presets are fully integrated into the touch interface, allowing instructors to manage views effortlessly.

Audio System

The audio system was redesigned for clarity and full-room coverage. Ceiling-mounted speakers provide even sound distribution, while wireless microphones support instructors. Ceiling microphone arrays capture participant audio, ensuring remote attendees can clearly hear all discussions.

Q-SYS Processing & Control

A Q-SYS Core processor serves as the backbone for audio processing, video routing, and system control. This ensures consistent performance, scalability, and reliability across both spaces.

User Control Interface

A Logitech Tap IP controller provides a single, streamlined interface for managing calls, content, and camera controls. This simplifies operation and reduces the need for multiple devices or remotes.

Podium-Integrated Infrastructure

Legacy equipment racks were replaced with new racks built directly into the podiums, improving accessibility, organization, and security. Each podium supports required network connectivity while centralizing system components.

- The Result

The upgraded Seminar and Squad Rooms now provide a consistent, high-performance training environment that supports both in-person and hybrid learning. Instructors can easily manage sessions, share content, and control the system from a single interface, while trainees benefit from clear audio, strong visibility, and reliable performance.

By standardizing the technology across both rooms and prioritizing usability, the City of Worcester now has training spaces that are modern, efficient, and built to support the evolving needs of law enforcement training.
