ADA Portable Assistive Listening System (ALS) Upgrade

CAVT partnered with the Town of Ware to develop a portable, ADA-compliant assistive listening solution designed to improve accessibility across municipal spaces. The project focused on creating a flexible system framework that enables clear communication and inclusive participation during public meetings and community events.
The project required designing an assistive listening solution that balanced compliance, portability, and ease of use. Unlike permanent AV installations, the system needed to function effectively in multiple environments without complex setup or technical oversight.
Additionally, the project began at a conceptual stage, requiring a clear scope and system framework to guide final design decisions, hardware selection, and implementation.
CAVT developed a structured system design and scope of work that outlines the foundation for a portable assistive listening solution tailored to the Town of Ware’s needs.
Key components of the solution included:
Portable ALS System Framework
A flexible assistive listening system was defined to support mobile deployment across meeting rooms and event spaces. The design prioritizes quick setup, ease of transport, and reliable operation in varying environments.
Accessibility-First Design
The system framework focuses on delivering clear audio directly to users through assistive listening technology, ensuring equitable participation for individuals with hearing impairments.
User-Friendly Operation
The solution emphasizes simplicity, enabling town staff to deploy and operate the system without specialized technical knowledge. This ensures consistent use during public meetings and events.
Scalable System Design
The structure allows for future expansion and refinement as system requirements evolve, including the addition of hardware components or integration with other AV systems.
Defined Scope & Implementation Roadmap
A detailed statement of work template was created to establish project expectations, including system functionality, scope boundaries, and implementation guidelines. This provides a clear path from concept to finalized deployment.
The Town of Ware now has a clear, structured roadmap for implementing a portable assistive listening system that prioritizes accessibility and ease of use. By defining the framework early in the process, the project sets the stage for a smooth transition into final design and deployment.
Once completed, the system will enable more inclusive public meetings and community events, ensuring all residents can fully participate regardless of hearing ability.
